My first crush never knew I liked her. My second crush, in about 3rd and 4th grade (maybe 2nd too? I don't remember) was a much more intense crush, the most I've ever had in my life. I was way too shy to talk to people, but she once came up to me in the playground and said, "I know you like me." (I might have told one of the other kids that I liked her a couple of days or weeks before that, I can't really remember.) I don't remember what my response was, probably nothing. On the last day of 4th grade, when all the kids were outside waiting for their parents to pick them up, I got extremely brave and marched over to her where she was talking to two other friends and said, "I love you." and walked away. I walked into the parking lot but my mom's car didn't seem to be there, so I had to walk back out. I had hoped she didn't notice that. That was the last time I ever saw her, during summer break my parents asked me if I wanted to go to a different school (no idea why). Perhaps that was fate's way of preventing something actually good from happening to me the following school year.
Just a couple of years ago I was browsing a Facebook group for that first elementary school and of all people to be in that group, I happened to find her. So it was interesting to see what she and her sisters look like now. She still has the same dimples! Of all people, the actually *first* girl I had a crush on was in there too, and amazingly her profile pic was pic of her at the age I had a crush on her and wearing her school uniform! It's amazing because I had always wondered, later on, what she looked like.
I had forgotten.
Oh, one time way after I stopped going to the first school I was there for a play (I think because my younger sister still went there?), and First Crush was singing in the play. Her voice was freakishly high-pitched, about as much so as Yeardley Smith's, and she was fat as a balloon. While walking back from the play to our car, my dad asked me about liking her, and I said I didn't like her anymore and that she's fat. Then he said that she was walking right behind us.. I felt really bad, but less bad because but I wasn't sure if he was lying or if she was in within earshot.
